You’ve been struggling about what has happened in the past and it hasn’t been getting better. Painful memories, triggers and bad dreams continue. Intrusive thoughts or flashbacks occur unexpectedly. People may see anger and frustration but they don’t know how deep the hurts are on the inside. Maybe you have been able to share it with someone or maybe you are holding it all in, trying to protect yourself from it getting worse.
Binging on a Netflix show can fill the time but it doesn’t help you feel better. Maybe you’re hyper focused on school or work or trying to avoid it. Drugs and alcohol may have been used to try to ease the pain or simply get a good night sleep.
Sometimes you worry that you will never be truly “over it.” You feel really stuck and it feels hard to even hope that your life is going to feel really good again. Things you used to enjoy (sports, art, fun pastimes) seem less interesting and ultimately, you don’t feel like yourself anymore.
Trauma does not discriminate. Strategizing and logically trying to think your way out of trauma is not enough. You worry about more terrible things that could happen. Self-criticism and negative thinking about yourself and life don’t simply fade. We can work on changing that.
This is where I can help. I specialize in helping people let go of past traumas and to feel better. I’ve helped people deal with physical abuse, accidents, sexual trauma, ongoing emotional stress that isn’t changing and traumatic deaths.
